Torrey Pines Golf Course opened in 1957 and was designed by William P. Bell and completed by his son, William F. Bell.
The facility features 36 holes of championship golf overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Torrey Pines State Reserve.
The South Course, redesigned by Rees Jones, hosted the U.S. Open Championships in 2008 and 2021 and has become one of the most recognized municipal golf courses in the world.
The North Course, redesigned by Tom Weiskopf, offers dramatic coastal scenery and a somewhat more playable alternative while still providing a championship-caliber experience.
North Course vs. South Course
Both courses deliver the Torrey Pines experience, but each offers something different.
South Course
The South Course is the more famous and demanding of the two Torrey Pines layouts. Host of the 2008 and 2021 U.S. Opens, it provides a true championship golf experience.
For first-time visitors looking for the signature Torrey Pines experience, the South Course is generally the first choice.

North Course
Redesigned by Tom Weiskopf, the North Course features outstanding Pacific Ocean views and provides a somewhat more playable alternative to the South.
Golfers looking for incredible scenery and a memorable Torrey Pines round should give the North Course strong consideration.
